Etsu Nupe Leads Prayers for Rainfall Amid Drought

In response to severe drought conditions affecting Niger State, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, led a prayer session on August 15, 2024, at the Eid praying ground in Esso, Bida. 

The event, which included traditional and religious leaders as well as local farmers, was held to seek divine intervention for much-needed rainfall in the state and across Nigeria.

Etsu Nupe, who also chairs the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, addressed the crowd following the prayer session. He emphasized that the prayers were not only for rain but also for seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mercy. 

“Even these unnecessary killings of innocent citizens can be responsible for the rainfall shortage, including our bad characters,” he noted.

suggesting that moral failings and societal issues could be contributing to the current calamities.

 Residents and farmers in Bida Emirate and other local governments have turned to these special prayers in hopes of averting the worsening drought. 

The Chief Imam prayed for sufficient rainfall to ensure bumper harvests and relief from the widespread hardships faced by Nigerians due to skyrocketing food prices and fuel shortages.

 The Etsu Nupe urged the Muslim Ummah to forgive one another, avoid immoralities, and return to God in true repentance.
