FG urges states to collaborate on International Agreement

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has warned state governments against engaging in international negotiations without federal oversight, following the seizure of three Nigerian government jets by a French court.

The seizure stems from a dispute involving a Chinese company, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment, which claims €74.5 million from Nigeria. Tuggar criticized the states’ independent dealings, stating,

“When sub-national actors take it upon themselves to go into agreements… and then when it goes awry, we are left with the problem to deal with.”

He emphasized the need for federal involvement to prevent such escalations.
