Islamic Cleric Killed by Bandits Despite Ransom Payment in Katsina State

A revered Islamic cleric, Malam Aminu, was tragically killed by bandits in Katsina State in spite of his family meeting all ransom demands requested.

The cleric, who was abducted weeks ago from his residence in Dugun-mu’azu town in Sabuwa Local Government Area, was reportedly beaten to death by his captors, even after the ransom and other demands required were fulfilled, which only shows how inhuman they were.

Moreover, Malam Aminu, who served as the Na’ibi (Deputy Imam) of the town’s main Juma’at mosque, was well-known for his prayers for the safety of the community and also showed his consistency in God trusting he could do all things.

Residents expressed shock and outrage over his death, with one local stating,

“It is heartbreaking that his life was taken in such a cruel manner, especially when he had done nothing but pray for protection from the violence plaguing our community.” The statement was made in pain.

However, in spite of the sorrow surrounding his death, the community views the cleric’s passing as a courageous sacrifice for peace, as his unwavering commitment to praying for an end to terrorism made him a target.

“His murder is not just an attack on him, but an attack on our community and our faith,” added another resident, calling for justice in the face of the escalating violence occurring in the region.
