At least 17 people have lost their lives and 34 others have been injured in a devastating explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district.
The blast, which occurred on Wednesday, August 21, was so powerful that it scattered severed body parts around the site, according to reports from several local newspapers.
The injured, many suffering severe chemical burn were quickly transported to nearby hospitals.

In spite of the tragic loss of life, swift action by local authorities and emergency services ensured that many lives were saved.
District police superintendent M. Deepika confirmed that no one remained trapped inside the building and that rescue operations were completed without further casualties.
“Seventeen dead and 34 injured,” she stated, highlighting the extent of the tragedy while acknowledging the success of the rescue efforts.
The intensity of the explosion left survivors in agonizing pain, as described by local police official M. Buchanan, who witnessed the aftermath. “It was horrible and heartbreaking,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating he was “pained by the loss of lives” in a social media post on Thursday.
He announced a compensation of $2,380 for the families of those killed, offering some relief amid the devastation.
Although the blast resulted in significant casualties, the immediate actions of rescue teams ensured that many families were spared from greater tragedy, and those injured were at least saved, preventing the situation from becoming even more catastrophic.
