21 Travelers Killed in Tragic Kaduna Highway Accident, Families Mourn Loss

At least 21 travelers have tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

The accident, which occurred on Thursday, September 12, 2024, involved a trailer truck and a Hummer passenger bus heading to Kano and Batsari town in Katsina State.

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officials reported that three survivors were rushed to the Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse for treatment, while the bodies of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The accident occurred near a route diversion that forced motorists from opposite directions to drive on a single lane, contributing to the collision.

The truck driver fled the scene, leaving behind the articulated vehicle and another container truck, which blocked the busy highway.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tafa Division, S.P. Idris Ibrahim, confirmed the incident and is compiling a report for the state command.

This tragedy is a significant loss for the families of the victims, especially in an already challenging economy.

Authorities are urged to thoroughly investigate the accident and address the recurring issues on this critical route to prevent future disasters.

The government is expected to send condolences and provide support to the grieving families as they face the burden of burying their loved ones.
