A 45-year-old man, Ayobami Oshoko, tragically took his own life in Abeokuta, Ogun State, due to the severe economic hardship he was reportedly facing in his home and could no longer handle the frustration coming from it.
The incident occurred in the early hours of September 30, 2024, at his residence in the Mango, Oke-Ata area. According to the Ogun State Police Command, Oshoko ingested a mixture of insecticide and herbal concoction, leaving behind a note expressing his frustrations with life, which is telling on his daily life.
SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim’s sister, Funmilayo, reported finding his lifeless body alongside the bottle of insecticide he took.
“The deceased left a note in Yoruba, explaining that he could no longer cope with the challenges and difficulties of life,” Odutola explained.
The police have launched a discreet investigation into the case to further review and have in-depth details of the whole cause of the issue.
The tragic death highlights the growing frustration many Nigerians are experiencing due to rising living costs, fuel price hikes, and the worsening economic climate in the nation.
