Kaduna Lecturer and Others Freed After 31 Days in Captivity

A Kaduna State lecturer and public commentator, Ismail Sahabi, has been released by kidnappers after enduring 31 harrowing days in captivity. 

According to LIB, Mr. Sahabi, a lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Zaria, was abducted along with his brother, Sidi Aliyu Sahabi, and two others while they were farming in Kasuwar Magani, Chikun Local Government Area. 

The victims, who are residents of Tudun Wada, Zaria, are said to regain their freedom on Friday, August 16, 2024.

The incident, which saw the kidnappers holding their captives for over a month, highlights the ongoing insecurity plaguing Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions. 

The rise in kidnappings is often attributed to the harsh economic conditions that have left many without jobs or sufficient means to support their families. 

This situation has led some to resort to criminal activities such as killing, including kidnapping, as a means of survival. 

 The tragic event highlights the urgent need for the government to address the root causes of these security challenges and implement effective measures to prevent future occurrences.

The repeated occurrences of kidnappings in northern Nigeria demand immediate attention from the authorities, who must take decisive action to restore security and prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.
