Bode George Urges Atiku Abubakar to Wait Until 2031 for Presidency, Advocates for Southern Leadership

The political tension between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, escalated as George advised Atiku to delay his presidential ambitions until 2031. 

 George argued that the presidency should be held by a Southerner for the next eight years to maintain a balance of power following the North’s recent tenure. Emphasizing the PDP’s principles of zoning and rotation, George stated, 

“The concept of ‘Turn-by-Turn Nigeria Limited’ must be strictly followed by our party… Alhaji Abubakar should do the same so that in 2027, PDP will field a Southerner as a presidential candidate.”

 In addition, George further highlighted that by the 2027 election, Atiku would be 81 years old and suggested it would be more appropriate for him to step aside, while comparing the situation to U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to make way for Kamala Harris. 

“What am I looking for in public office as an octogenarian? The same principle should apply to Alhaji Abubakar.” 

 George asserted, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the PDP Constitution for justice, fairness, and equity within the party.
