Rapper Fatman Scoop Dies After Collapsing On Stage During Connecticut Concert

The music world mourns the loss of American rapper and hypeman, Fatman Scoop, who tragically passed away on Friday night after collapsing on stage during a concert in Connecticut.

The 53-year-old artist, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, was performing at the Green and Gold Party summer concert in Hamden when he suffered a sudden medical emergency.

In spite of immediate attempts by those nearby to administer CPR, the rapper could not be revived. 

 In a heartfelt statement shared on his Instagram page, his family expressed their grief, saying,

“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop. Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

His death marks a significant loss for the hip-hop community, where he was celebrated for his energetic performances and influence, particularly in New York City’s 1990s hip-hop scene.

 Fatman Scoop’s impact extended beyond music, as he featured on popular tracks like Missy Elliott’s Grammy-winning “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” His 2003 hit “Be Faithful” topped the charts internationally, solidifying his legacy in the industry.

His passing leaves a void not only for those he mentored and inspired but also for the countless fans who admired his talent and positive influence.

The mayor of Hamden, Lauren Garrett, echoed the sentiment of loss, offering condolences and acknowledging the rapper’s wide following, stating,

“He was a wonderful performer with a wide following, as evidenced by the thousands of fans that came to see what would be his last performance.”
