FCT Minister Wike Defends Decision to Join tinubu’s Government, Dismisses Critics

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he has no regrets about joining President Bola Tinubu’s government, despite backlash from his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike, a prominent PDP member, made waves during the 2023 presidential election when he chose to support the APC-led administration, a move that sparked criticism from within his party.

Speaking at the PDP congress in Rivers State on August 31, Wike responded to those dissatisfied with his decision, stating,

“We are fully in government. We are fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regrets about it, and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug themselves in the transformer.”

His comments underline his unapologetic stance on working with the current administration, emphasizing his commitment to his new role.

Wike’s decision to side with the ruling party has raised concerns about his loyalty, not only to the PDP but also to the citizens who may question his integrity.

Critics argue that if Wike can easily switch allegiances for personal gain, it could indicate a lack of reliability, which raises doubts about his commitment to the broader public interest.

This move further intensifies the ongoing debate about the trustworthiness of political leaders who shift alliances for strategic reasons.
