Yobe Community Attacked: Government Urged to Uncover Details, Protect Citizens

The recent attack on Mafa village in Yobe State, which resulted in the loss of many lives and destruction of properties, has raised concerns about the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens. 

 The incident, which occurred on September 1, 2024, was carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents who looted and set ablaze shops and houses. 

 The government must ensure that the details of the incident are uncovered and those responsible are brought to justice.

 The police have confirmed the incident, but the number of casualties is yet to be ascertained. The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, said, 

 “We are yet to ascertain the number of lives lost in the incident, which occurred at about 4 pm on Sunday in the remote village.” 

  Government must take responsibility for ensuring that the police are equipped to handle such incidents and that the community is protected.

 The attack on Mafa village is a stark reminder of the government’s duty to protect its citizens. 

 The incident has left many innocent people dead and their lives unfulfilled. 

 The government must take concrete steps to ensure that such incidents do not recur and that the perpetrators are brought to justice. 

 As DSP Abdulkarim said,

 “The terrorists also dropped some flyers with Arabic inscriptions.” 

 The government must investigate these flyers and uncover the motives behind the attack. The lives of citizens depend on it.
