Peter Obi Criticizes Tinubu Administration for Fuel Scarcity Crisis, Calls for Transparency in Government Operations

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has sharply criticized the Tinubu-led administration, attributing the ongoing fuel scarcity in Nigeria to what he describes as government ineptitude.

In a detailed post shared on his X handle on September 3, Obi expressed his concerns about the impact of the current fuel shortage, noting how it exacerbates the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians, particularly those who rely on fuel for their livelihoods, such as taxi drivers and vendors of frozen goods.

Obi emphasized that the government’s inability to effectively manage the country’s fuel supply is a direct reflection of gross incompetence.

He pointed out that despite the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) declaring a N3 trillion profit in 2023, the company is now claiming “financial constraints” as the reason for its failure to ensure adequate fuel distribution.

This, he argues, contradicts the government’s narrative and leaves Nigerians in the dark about the true state of the nation’s finances and oil industry.

“The fuel scarcity crisis, characterized by endless queues and untold hardship, is a direct result of the government’s ineptitude,” Obi stated.

Moreover, Obi raised concerns about the transparency of NNPCL’s operations, particularly in light of the struggles faced by the $20 billion Dangote Refinery and other modular refineries in securing crude oil supplies.

He asserted that the administration’s search for external operators for its refineries is further evidence of its failure to manage the nation’s critical resources effectively.

Obi called on Nigerians to demand greater transparency from the government, especially concerning NNPCL’s financial dealings and operational plans.

“We should not stand idly by while this government violates our laws,” he urged,

stressing the importance of holding the government accountable for its actions and ensuring that the Nigerian people receive the governance they deserve.
