Nigerians May Face Petrol Prices as High as N5,000 per Litre, Warns NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has raised alarm over the potential for petrol prices to skyrocket to as much as N5,000 per litre, citing the government’s failure to address the worsening economic crisis.

In a recent interview, NLC spokesperson Benson Upah expressed the growing anger among Nigerians as prices of essential commodities continue to rise, leaving citizens struggling to adjust to the ever-increasing costs of living.

“We want to reiterate that we feel betrayed by the present increase in the pump price of petroleum products,” Upah stated, explaining that initial negotiations with the government left many Nigerians hopeful for a solution.

However, the NLC now believes that further increases in gasoline prices are inevitable, with the potential for costs to escalate dramatically.

“We may end up paying nothing less than N5,000 per litre for fuel in this country,” Upah warned.

Amid widespread frustration, Upah criticized the government for failing to uphold its promises to labor leaders, leading to uncertainty and economic hardship for the majority of the population.

“Nigerians have been trying to reorder their lives to accept a fate they never bargained for,” he said.

With rising costs in transportation, education, and basic needs, the NLC spokesperson urged citizens to brace for more economic difficulties as they face a future filled with financial uncertainty.
