NIS Deports 61 Foreign Nationals Over Irregular Migration, Issues Over 8,000 Visas on Arrival

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the deportation of 61 foreign nationals in August 2024 as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle irregular migration.

This action is a significant step in enforcing the country’s immigration laws and ensuring stricter border control.

According to an official report, the NIS continues to take firm measures against unlawful entry, stating,

“The NIS eased out 61 foreign nationals to address irregular migration.” In addition to the deportations, the NIS facilitated 8,352 Visas on Arrival as part of Nigeria’s new visa policy.

The move aims to promote smoother entry processes for legitimate travelers while reinforcing the country’s commitment to lawful migration.

The statement highlighted that this was in line with the country’s efforts to tighten security while encouraging proper channels for migration.

The NIS has taken similar steps in the past, including the deportation of at least 70 foreign nationals between 2020 and 2022, showing the agency’s consistent stance on securing the nation’s borders.

These actions, combined with the newly implemented visa policy, reflect the government’s ongoing focus on improving national security and safeguarding the country from irregular migration.

By taking proactive measures, the NIS is helping to prevent illegal activities and ensure that migration to Nigeria is safe, orderly, and regular.

This commitment to border security is essential for protecting the country’s citizens and promoting economic growth.
