The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralized 28 terrorists in a series of airstrikes in the Bassa community, Shiroro local government area of Niger State, and is trying to restore peace back to the country.
The operation, which took place on Wednesday, September 11, was confirmed by Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, in a statement on Thursday.
The airstrikes were conducted in response to a request for air support from ground forces, ensuring the safety of civilians and securing the region from ongoing threats, and restoring peace and order back to the community so that people can regain their back on track.
“Upon arrival, Nigerian Air Force air assets observed over 100 terrorists engaging friendly forces in a fierce firefight,” Ali stated.
“The strikes were devastating, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in successive passes. As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burned motorcycles still being cleared.”He added.
Group Captain Ali assured Nigerians that the NAF will continue to collaborate with ground forces to secure peace and stability across the country, for the sake of the people.
Additionally, he added, “We remain committed to eliminating all threats to the peace, prosperity, and security of the nation.”
