The Presidency has swiftly denied reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu asked the newly appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, to resign due to the ongoing depreciation of the naira, which seems to be more confusing due to different responses.
The statement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, who refuted the circulating rumors on social media platforms to correct the wrong rumor.
Reacting via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Onanuga dismissed the claims stated as false before they escalated into a matter that won’t be easily managed or resolved.
“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” he tweeted.
The clarification comes after earlier reports suggested that the governor was being held responsible for the sharp decline in the naira’s value that was claimed, which is now being discussed.
This denial, however, highlights concerns about the inconsistency in government statements and raises questions about transparency and accountability in President Tinubu’s administration.
Public skepticism continues to grow as many feel uncertain about the direction of the nation’s economic policies and the leadership’s ability to communicate cohesive strategies during times of financial crisis or any other situation.
