President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigerian security agencies to intensify efforts in clamping down on cybercriminals and international car theft syndicates tarnishing the nation’s image.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on information and strategy, President Tinubu expressed his displeasure at the involvement of Nigerian nationals in such activities, stressing the impact on the country’s global reputation.
He emphasized that Nigeria would not serve as a destination for stolen vehicles or illicit wealth from foreign countries and ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and other law enforcement agencies to intensify their investigations and actions against the criminals involved.
Furthermore, the president praised the EFCC for their collaboration with international partners, including the return of 53 vehicles and $180,300 to Canadian authorities following a cybercrime incident involving Nigerian nationals.

He commended such international cooperation but reiterated that Nigeria must take a proactive stance in eradicating cybercrime and vehicle trafficking within its borders to avoid becoming a haven for illicit activity.
He urged authorities to preserve seized assets for the benefit of the state, victims, and society in accordance with global conventions.
Moreover, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling cybercrime, money laundering, and other financial crimes to safeguard the nation’s integrity.
He stressed that criminals who engage in these illegal acts will be prosecuted and made examples of to deter others from damaging the country’s standing on the international stage.
