“They Can Imprison Our Bodies, But Not Our Spirit” – NLC President Ajaero Rallies Support Amid Government Pressure

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has expressed deep gratitude for the support the union has received from both national and international organizations during its recent struggles with the Nigerian government.

Ajaero, who has been summoned by security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), emphasized that while the government may attempt to intimidate the labour body, it will never break their spirit or unity.

Speaking to union officials in Lagos, Ajaero stated,

“Recently, I was arrested and detained by the state, a clear attempt to intimidate and silence our movement.

They hoped to find wrongdoing but we have kept faith alive.”

He urged supporters to remain steadfast in their solidarity, adding that despite any obstacles the government may place in their path, their unity and resolve will carry them through.

Moreover, Ajaero commended the unwavering support from international bodies like the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), and various global unions, stating,

“Your collective voices condemned the actions of the government against the NLC and its leadership, and for this, we remain profoundly grateful.”

He encouraged all stakeholders to continue their efforts, assuring them that a better Nigeria would emerge from their collective resilience.
