Biden Set to Address UN General Assembly for the Final Time as US President

With just four months remaining in his presidency, Joe Biden will deliver his final address to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, September 24.

His speech will come amid a series of global crises, including the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as escalating tensions in Lebanon.

Biden’s address will likely emphasize the challenges of his presidency, particularly in foreign policy, while seeking to reinforce the need for international cooperation.

A senior U.S. administration official noted that Biden’s speech offers him a platform to highlight what he sees as his major achievements.

Moreover, it will give him an opportunity to urge continued support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression while also calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre commented that Biden will outline “his vision for how the world should come together to resolve these big problems and defend fundamental principles such as the U.N. Charter.”

Furthermore, Biden is expected to meet with Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in Washington on Thursday to discuss Ukraine’s peace plan.

This meeting, as well as the U.N. address, will mark the end of Biden’s tenure, which has been deeply shaped by international conflicts and efforts to promote global unity.
