Oshiomhole Declares Obaseki ‘Politically D£ad’ Following Edo Election Loss

Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that current Governor Godwin Obaseki is “politically dead” after the outcome of the recently concluded governorship election.

Oshiomhole made this remark during an interview on Channels TV’s “Politics Today,” asserting that the election results reflect the will of the people and signal a significant decline in Obaseki’s political influence.

 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Edo governorship race on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Oshiomhole dismissed any controversy surrounding the APC candidate’s victory, emphasizing that the result was a clear expression of the people’s choice.

He stated, “The people have decided… Monday has been declared the governor-elect,” while adding that Obaseki’s leadership had failed to deliver on key promises.

 Furthermore, Oshiomhole criticized Obaseki’s handling of state affairs, particularly in areas like education and healthcare.

He pointed out that despite Obaseki’s grand promises, the governor had not improved the conditions for the poor.

“If you have signed millions of MoUs… but can’t build classrooms and their children are sitting on the floor, where is the value?” Oshiomhole asked, urging other leaders to learn from the situation to avoid repeating similar mistakes.
