Naomi Campbell Banned as Charity Trustee After Mismanagement Investigation into Fashion For Relief

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee for five years after an investigation into her Fashion For Relief charity revealed serious disorganization and mismanagement. 

According to the Charity Commission, the inquiry found that only 8.5% of the charity’s spending between 2016 and 2022 went to charitable causes, despite millions being raised to support the organization.

Additionally, lavish expenses, including flights and luxury hotel stays for Campbell, were deemed inappropriate uses of the charity’s funds.

 The Charity Commission’s report revealed that £344,000 had been recovered and redirected to other charities.

Deputy Director Tim Hopkins stated,

“Trustees are legally required to make decisions in their charity’s best interests… Our inquiry found the trustees failed to do so.”

Mismanagement also included unauthorized payments of £290,000 to one of the trustees for consultancy services, violating the charity’s constitution.

 Campbell’s ban, along with that of her colleagues Bianka Hellmich and Veronica Chou, highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in leadership.

In spite of the charity’s global influence, the inquiry has now damaged its reputation.

Campbell, who started the charity in 2005 to support humanitarian causes, now faces the fallout from these revelations, serving as a cautionary tale for leaders to manage resources responsibly.
