FG Investigating Alleged Sponsors of Banditry in North-West – DHQ

The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that investigations are ongoing into the allegations of banditry sponsorship in Nigeria’s North-West region, which has kept people in fear.

This was disclosed by the DHQ’s Director of Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

Buba assured that relevant agencies were handling the matter and would reveal findings soon.

“When you talk about what’s going on with the sponsors, I can assure you that the relevant agencies… are doing a good job.

And sooner than later, you will hear some announcements in that regard,” Buba stated.

The allegations have been a source of tension, particularly between the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, and his successor as Zamfara governor, Dauda Lawal, with both accusing each other of banditry sponsorship.

Meanwhile, Buba emphasized that the military remains focused on dismantling the operational will of the bandits.

“Winning a war is destroying the enemy’s will to fight,” he said, adding that the military’s strategy is aimed at weakening the bandits’ resolve to continue their criminal activities.

This development marks a significant effort by the government to address growing concerns over insecurity in the region.
