Comedian Bovi Criticizes Catholic Priest for Hitting Altar Boy, Calls for Accountability

Comedian Bovi Ugboma has spoken out against a viral video showing a Catholic priest knocking a Mass server on the head during a wedding ceremony.

Bovi expressed his frustration at the normalization of abuse in Nigeria, criticizing both the priest for his actions and the boy’s family for accepting the priest’s apology.

The priest, who apologized in a recorded meeting, described the incident as a “minor correction,” which Bovi condemned as an insufficient and half-hearted apology.

In an Instagram post, Bovi wrote, “He hit a defenseless child. He humiliated that child.

He harmed that child’s confidence… Knocking a kid in the head unprovoked is a violent and criminal act.”

He further questioned why the Nigerian police have not taken action, stating that addressing such incidents could prevent further abuse.

Bovi emphasized that the public defense of the priest’s behavior sets a dangerous precedent for child welfare in the country.

The comedian stressed the need for accountability, urging that small acts of violence be confronted before they escalate.

“If we think this is normal behavior, then we are all abnormal.

We must prevent and put out small fires before we all get consumed,” Bovi added.

He called on child rights activists and authorities to take a stronger stance on such behavior, insisting that children’s emotional and psychological well-being must be protected.
