FG Declares Tuesday, October 1 Public Holiday to Mark 64th Independence Anniversary

The Federal Government has officially declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a public holiday to celebrate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.

This announcement was made on Saturday, September 28, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In a statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both home and abroad on the milestone, commending the resilience and hard work of the nation’s citizens.

He assured the public that their sacrifices would not go in vain.

“Aligning with the theme of this year’s celebration, the Minister emphasized the importance of reflecting on the labor of our heroes past and uniting for the challenges ahead.

A Nigeria of our dreams can only be built through collective effort,” the statement read.

While many will take this public holiday as an opportunity to rest, concerns remain over the country’s economic challenges and insecurity.

The declaration of the holiday presents an opportunity for the government to recommit itself to addressing these pressing issues, thereby proving to the people that they are dedicated to the well-being of the nation and are capable of leading Nigeria toward a more stable and prosperous future.
