Court Approves Suit to Compel FG to Investigate Former Zamfara Governor Matawalle Over Banditry Allegations

The Federal High Court in Abuja has given the green light for a lawsuit seeking to compel the Federal Government to investigate former Zamfara Governor and current Minister of State for Defense, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, over alleged ties to banditry in Zamfara State, Nigeria.

The suit, filed by human rights activist Abubakar Dahiru, also targets President Bola Tinubu, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Inspector General of Police, inclusive.

 Furthermore, Dahiru, through his counsel, is requesting the court to declare that President Tinubu directs the IGP to investigate the banditry crisis in Zamfara and Matawalle’s alleged involvement in the whole of the issue.

 The plaintiff cited claims from Zamfara’s current governor, Dauda Lawal, and media reports accusing Matawalle of supporting bandits during his tenure as governor from 2019 to 2023, which he handed over. 

 The court has yet to set a hearing date for the issue to be resolved.

 The case highlights the Federal Government’s resolve to address allegations of insecurity in Zamfara and ensure transparency in the community.

 Legal action may help restore public trust and clarify the truth behind the allegations, preventing further political drama and ensuring accountability in leadership all around the sector.
