Man Who Demanded Tinubu’s Resignation Admitted to Psychiatric Hospital After High-Tension Pole Stunt

A 30-year-old man, Abdullahi Mohammed, who climbed a 33 kV high-tension electricity pole in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa, demanding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s resignation, has been admitted to the Yola Psychiatric Hospital for a mental evaluation.

The police arrested Mohammed on Saturday, September 28, after convincing him to come down from the pole.

His actions, described as suspicious by the police, led to his hospitalization for psychiatric tests.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, revealed that during Mohammed’s arrest, hard drugs, including Indian hemp, were found in his possession.

Nguroje stated, “The suspect confessed to taking Indian hemp and other hard drugs, and his abnormal behavior prompted us to take him for a detailed medical examination.”

The results of the psychiatric evaluation will determine the next steps in the legal process.

Meanwhile, Nguroje emphasized that attempting suicide is a criminal offense in Nigeria, and Mohammed could face charges for his actions.

He added that while the man’s actions might stem from frustrations with the country’s struggling economy, his use of drugs also played a role.

“We are going to charge him to court, as attempting suicide is a criminal offense under our Constitution,” Nguroje confirmed.
