Police Refund N1m Extorted from NYSC Members in Lagos

Police officers in Lagos, attached to the Area C command, have returned over N1 million that was reportedly extorted from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in an uncalled-for manner.

The development was initially reported by Oluyemi Fasipe, an X formerly Twitter user who brought the incident to public attention so that it could be addressed urgently.

According to Fasipe, the swift intervention by Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin and officials from the Lagos State NYSC ensured the refund of the extorted funds was made.

The case, however, is still under investigation, as the officers involved are facing trial for their actions, which were so unethical of their profession and improper.

“Justice has been served with the refund, but we are still awaiting the outcome of the trial,” Fasipe noted.

However, he also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue advocating for accountability within law enforcement agencies to avoid further discomfort.

The swift response and resolution have been praised by many, as it showcases a move towards justice and accountability in the country but mostly in the agency.

Furthermore, it is hoped that this will foster greater trust between the public and law enforcement, as incidents like this highlight the importance of integrity and transparency within the police force.
