Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has raised concerns over alleged plans to mobilize 20 individuals per unit to attack newly sworn-in local government chairmen upon their return to their respective local government headquarters.
Fubara issued this warning on Sunday, during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, advising the new chairmen to prioritize peace and remain strategic in their approach to leadership amidst potential threats.
Fubara stressed the importance of maintaining peace in the state, stating, “I’m aware that there are plans to mobilize 20 people per unit to confront you when you return to your local government headquarters.
If they come with violence, avoid them.
The peace of this state is too important to us.”
Moreover, he encouraged the chairmen to follow his approach by being patient and calculative in handling confrontations, reassuring them that success will come through wise leadership.
The governor’s message comes at a time when the nation faces economic instability, high fuel prices, and growing distrust in governance.
Fubara’s call for peace and strategic leadership reflects his effort to ensure that the newly elected officials avoid unnecessary conflict that could further destabilize their local governments.
He urged the leaders to remain committed to their promises, saying,
“We have made our promises to our people, and we are committed to leading them to the Promised Land.”
