Rivers Governor Fubara Inaugurates Panel to Investigate Killings and Destruction at Local Government Secretariats

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has demonstrated his commitment to maintaining order and curbing violence by inaugurating a seven-member panel to investigate recent killings and destruction at local government secretariats.

The panel, which was set up on Tuesday, October 8, is tasked with uncovering the root causes of the violence and identifying those responsible for the recent attacks that have claimed lives and destroyed property in Emohua, Eleme, and Ikwerre.

Governor Fubara, while addressing the panel, emphasized his administration’s determination to stop the violence, stating,

“We must bring to book those responsible for this arson, no matter who they are. Rivers will not be a place for ill-guided youths and sponsored political thugs to operate freely.”

He urged the panel, chaired by Judge Ibiwengi Roseline Minakiri, to conduct a thorough investigation and submit their findings within a month.

The governor’s decisive action follows the violence that marred the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) elections held on October 5.
