RFK Jr. Honors His ‘Fearless’ Mother Ethel Kennedy After Her Peaceful Passing at 96

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., former US presidential candidate, took to social media to pay a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Ethel Kennedy, following her passing at the age of 96. Ethel, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy and mother of 11 children, passed away peacefully in Boston, surrounded by her family and friends.

In his post, RFK Jr. reflected on her long life and the profound impact she had on those around her.

“My mom… passed peacefully into heaven this morning,” he wrote.

“She was 96. She died in Boston surrounded by many of her nine surviving children and her friends.”

Ethel Kennedy, known for her resilience, founded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization in 1968 after the tragic assassination of her husband.

Throughout her life, she remained a pillar of strength for her family, which grew to include 34 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

RFK Jr. highlighted her ability to balance toughness with loyalty, noting, “My mother invented tough love… but she was also intensely loyal, and we always knew that she would stand fiercely behind us when we came under attack by others.”

Ethel’s death followed a stroke on October 3, which led to her hospitalization.

Her son’s tribute concluded with a touching acknowledgment of her legacy, stating,

“I credit her for all my virtues.

I’m grateful for her generosity in overlooking my faults.”
