The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola, attacked the federal government on Wednesday, charging that by providing palliative care, it was turning Nigerians into paupers.
He also stated his support for the Patriots’ demand for a new constitution during the Prestige Sisters League’s thank-you tour to the ABUAD campus in Ado-Ekiti.
Babalola, known for his patriotism and candid assessments, stated,
“Those who are complaining about hunger are doing so sincerely. They are hungry. A hungry man can go to any length to show his anger. We do not need anybody to tell us about hunger in the country. The protest was genuine, and the government should listen to them.”
He underlined that the government should focus on creating a welfare-focused environment where people can prosper rather than using short-term fixes like giving out garri, beans, and rice, which he feels discourages effort and increases dependency.
In addition to his critique of the palliative measures, Babalola advocated for the reenactment of the 1963 constitution, bypassing the need for a constitutional conference.
“I read the publication of the Patriots visiting President Tinubu, and I am in full agreement with them. We need a new constitution,” he said.
His position represents a broader demand for leadership and transparency in tackling the underlying causes of Nigeria’s problems, implying that great strides could be achieved if all leaders were as sincere and dedicated to the country’s welfare.
