Akwa Ibom Police Neutralize Notorious Kidnap Kingpin Responsible for Judge’s Abduction and Orderly’s Death

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully neutralized a notorious kidnap kingpin, Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as “Condiment,” who was responsible for a series of heinous crimes, including the abduction of High Court Judge Justice Joy Unwana and the killing of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet.

The suspect, who was also involved in other high-profile kidnappings and murders, was shot dead during a gun battle with police operatives at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

 ASP Timfon John, spokesperson for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

He detailed the crimes committed by Archibong, describing him as a dangerous criminal whose activities terrorized the Uruan/Oron waterways.

“The suspect’s stock in trade was to kidnap, kill, maim, and cause havoc in societies,” the statement read.

The police recovered a G3 rifle with four live ammunition from the scene, and the suspect’s body was deposited at the morgue. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of his gang.

 The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reassured the public of their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state.

The police called on residents to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that the force remains determined to serve with professionalism and dedication.

“We are committed to making Akwa Ibom a safe and secure place for businesses to thrive,” the statement concluded, reflecting the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the region.
