Nigerian Catholic priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has issued a strong admonition to drivers who prioritize prayers over common sense precautions like getting enough rest before embarking on long journeys.
In a recent Facebook post, Fr. Ugwu highlighted the dangers of sleep deprivation, especially for those who plan to drive the next day, emphasizing that physical preparation is just as important as spiritual protection.
“You know you are traveling the next day, and you know you will drive, but you have spent your whole night awake or in vigil praying for safe journeys. You did not sleep,” Fr. Ugwu wrote, addressing the tendency of some to rely solely on spiritual means, such as hanging rosaries and playing religious songs, to prevent accidents.
He pointed out that such practices, while important, cannot replace the need for rest, which is a basic requirement for safe driving.
Fr. Ugwu’s message serves as a wake-up call to those who neglect their physical well-being in the name of spiritual warfare. He urged, “Leave those faraway demons you are casting and binding.
Deal first with the demon in you, the one not allowing you to have common sense.”
By highlighting the importance of balancing spiritual and physical actions, the priest aims to help people avoid preventable tragedies, highlighting that true wisdom lies in knowing when to pray and when to take practical steps to ensure safety.
