Nigerian singer Adeleke David, popularly known as Davido, has engaged in a social media spat with Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over comments made about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which were not meant to be controversial.
During the Edo State governorship elections, Davido took to his X, formerly Twitter handle, to criticize INEC, calling it
“the most dangerous institution in Nigeria,” he stated as he views it.
In response, Gawat, a known member of the APC, replied to Davido’s post in what the singer found to be an unflattering manner, which addressed back to be sure of the main problem.
Davido quickly fired back, accusing Gawat of being hypocritical, especially since he had previously shown support for Sanwo-Olu at public events, notably at his wedding, where he referred to the Lagos State Governor as the “real 001.” A fact followed, which is seen in a video.

Rather than addressing Davido’s concerns, the exchange between the two quickly turned personal.
Observers have noted that instead of engaging in personal attacks, such comments could have been seen as a call for improvement in the electoral process.
