Nigerian singer Adeleke David, popularly known as Davido, has raised concerns over the Nigeria Police Force’s directive for voters in Edo State to return home immediately after casting their votes during the state elections that are to take place.
The directive, issued by Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, emphasized that voters should not linger at polling stations after voting and should avoid loitering in the streets to avoid overthinking that there are manipulators nearby.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Mba stated, “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty.”
However, Davido, taking to his X, formerly Twitter handle, responded to the directive with a questioning tone, writing, “Lol, go where?”.
While soI citizens expressed concerns that the directive could be a tactic to manipulate election results behind closed doors, others suggested that the police were focused on ensuring public safety and minimizing potential unrest as there is no prediction of what the result of the election will look like.
The debate highlights ongoing tensions surrounding election, security, transparency, and accountability.
