France’s national football coach, Didier Deschamps, has broken his silence following media reports that team captain Kylian Mbappe is being investigated for a racist allegation in Sweden.
The allegations surfaced from Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, which reported a r@pe incident at a central Stockholm hotel where Mbappe had been staying.
Another publication, Expressen, went further, naming the 25-year-old footballer as the suspect.
Deschamps, however, has warned against rushing to judgment.
“Everyone is free to write what they want, but there is a negative atmosphere surrounding this,” Deschamps told reporters following France’s 2-1 win over Belgium.
He emphasized the need for restraint, stating, “Be careful when you pick things up… It’s important to verify facts before publishing any old thing.”
Deschamps made it clear that he does not intend to speak to Mbappe about the matter, believing the player is capable of handling the situation himself.
Meanwhile, Mbappe has strongly denied the accusations, labeling the reports as “fake news” on social media.
In a statement from his entourage, they described the claims as “completely false and irresponsible.”
They further vowed to take legal action against any media or individuals involved in spreading the defamatory rumors.
Mbappe’s team insists that the allegations are an attempt to tarnish his image ahead of an ongoing legal battle with PSG over unpaid wages and bonuses.
