The Edo State Government has announced the indefinite suspension of school resumption due to the recent increase in fuel prices, which has caused widespread hardship.
Initially scheduled for September 9, 2024, the reopening of public and private schools across the state has been postponed, according to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe.
In the memo released on Saturday, Akin-Longe stated that the decision was made to alleviate the financial burden faced by parents, guardians, and teachers in light of the ongoing economic challenges.
“The government urges parents, guardians, and caregivers to monitor the activities of their children and wards closely, given the current situation and the rising tension caused by the fuel price hike,” Akin-Longe explained.
The postponement provides families additional time to secure funds for school fees, transportation, and other expenses associated with education, offering relief in a time of economic strain.
The government assured that further announcements will be made as the situation improves.
