The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has responded to a trending video in which a woman accused airport officials of demanding N5,000 to clear her bags.
Contrary to initial reports, the woman in question was not a passenger but a cargo agent conducting illegal operations at the airport, which is not supposed to be.
FAAN released a statement on October 8, 2024, stating that the woman refused to pay the stipulated charges for the cargo and behaved in an unacceptable manner, damaging equipment and straining resources.
The authority clarified that there was no molestation or request for a bribe from their staff during the incident, describing it as an act of blackmail.

FAAN emphasized that cargo operations should be restricted to designated cargo areas, utilizing proper vehicles and personnel, and paying the levies.
The authority imposes a fine of N5,000.00 (Five Thousand Naira) on non-compliant cargoes for failure to utilize designated cargo terminals and damage to carousels resulting from improper cargo handling.
FAAN remains committed to providing clear guidance on its policies and procedures and has advised the public to adhere to the rules guiding airport operations to avoid similar incidents in the future.
