Severe flooding has severed the Azare-Ja’amare road along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway in Bauchi State, causing major disruptions to transportation and raising alarm over the safety of nearby communities.
The road, a vital link in the northeast geopolitical zone, has become impassable due to a large crater formed by floodwaters, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes and creating significant logistical challenges.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, inspected the damaged area and reported the situation to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Governor Mohammed emphasized the urgent need for proper water management to prevent further damage and potential submersion of surrounding communities.
“If the flow of water is not managed effectively, surrounding communities could face the risk of being submerged,” he warned, highlighting the critical nature of the situation.
This latest road damage follows heavy rains two weeks ago that severely impacted another section of the federal highway between Malori and Guskuri villages in the Katagum Local Government Area.
The recurring flooding incidents underscore the urgent need for the government to implement comprehensive drainage systems across the state.
Without proper drainage infrastructure, such disasters will continue to disrupt daily life, making it difficult for citizens to commute to work or carry out their daily activities.
The government must prioritize the development of effective drainage systems to prevent future occurrences and protect the lives and livelihoods of Bauchi State residents.
