Former PSV Eindhoven player Rai Vloet is set to serve a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence after causing a car crash that tragically claimed the life of a four-year-old boy, Gio Roos.
The crash occurred in 2021, and the footballer was found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, reportedly
“smelling of alcohol” with bloodshot eyes.
In spite of initially appealing his sentence, Vloet recently withdrew his appeal, allowing the original prison term to stand because he knew he was guilty of the act.
The parents of Gio Roos, devastated by the loss of their young child, may find some solace in seeing Vloet held accountable for his actions.
While no sentence can bring back their son, the legal decision serves as a warning to others that reckless behavior has severe consequences; regardless of one’s status or profession, everyone is equal by law.
