Four youths were killed in a brutal attack by gunmen at a mining site in Butura, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Friday night.
The attackers, who reportedly spoke the Fulani dialect, opened fire on the workers around 9 p.m., killing four individuals on the spot and injuring five others.
The victims, identified as Bwefuk Musa, Klingshak Dickson, Promise Joshua, and Nyam Abaka, were aged between 20 and 21 years.
The President of the Butura Youth Movement, Sabastine Magit, described the assault as yet another “unprovoked attack” on the Butura community.
“This attack occurred just four days after a tragic incident in Wumat village, where five family members, including a pregnant woman, were killed,” Magit said.
He expressed concern over the increasing insecurity in the area, adding that over 20 people from Butura have been killed in similar incidents in the last month.
The attackers fled before military personnel could respond, raising concerns about the need for stronger security measures in the region.
Local authorities and security forces have been alerted, but tensions remain high.
“We call on the government to act swiftly, investigate these incidents, and put an end to these senseless killings,” Magit added, urging authorities to tighten security and protect vulnerable communities.
