Gigantic Tortoise Found Roaming in Maiduguri After Flood Forces Zoo Animals Into Residential Areas

A massive tortoise was discovered roaming freely in Maiduguri, Borno State, after a recent flood caused by heavy rainfall and leading to a dam burst. 

 The tortoise, which required the strength of five men to lift, became a spectacle as locals gathered to witness the rare sight, filming the event with their phones to keep memories of their adventure and to pass down to their children or loved ones.

 The flooding, which is considered the worst Maiduguri has seen in recent times, has severely impacted the area, damaging homes and forcing animals out of the local zoo, which is a painful experience to have considering the Nigerian current economic state.

 Many animals drowned, while more dangerous ones, like crocodiles and snakes, are believed to have swum into nearby residential areas, posing a significant threat to local farmers, hunters, and residents. 

 Who goes out every day in search of greener pastures.

 With fears mounting over the safety of the displaced animals and residents, the situation calls for urgent government intervention to ensure the proper safety of the people.

 In addition, deploying well-trained wildlife officials to search for the escaped animals would help prevent further harm and restore safety to the communities affected by this disaster.
