The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the elimination of senior Hezbollah intelligence commander Hassan Khalil Yassin in a precision airstrike on Saturday, September 28, in Beirut’s Dahieh district.
Yassin, responsible for identifying civilian and military targets in Israel, had been deeply involved in planning terror attacks during the ongoing conflict, according to the IDF.
His death came just hours after Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in a similar Israeli strike targeting Hezbollah’s headquarters.
Yassin’s death marks another significant blow to Hezbollah’s leadership and comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and the militant group.
“Yassin stood at the head of a department responsible for the identification of civilian and military targets,” the IDF stated, emphasizing that his involvement posed a direct threat to Israeli civilians and soldiers.
Following Nasrallah’s death, Lebanon retaliated with an attack on Israeli territory, further fueling the ongoing conflict.
The strike on Yassin and the previous assassination of Nasrallah have intensified the situation, leading to protests in Iran and calls for “revenge” against Israel.
As violence escalated, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed Nasrallah’s killing as a “historic turning point,” while Lebanon declared a three-day mourning period.
The Lebanese health ministry reported that Israeli airstrikes have killed 33 people and injured 195 more in recent days, contributing to the growing number of casualties and displaced individuals.
