Kenya School Fire Claims Lives of 17 Children

At least 17 children tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out at Hillside Endarasha Academy, a primary school in Nyeri County, Kenya, on the night of Thursday, September 5.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and police confirm that more than 150 pupils were in the dormitory when the blaze erupted around midnight.

According to police spokesperson Resila Onyango, “We have lost 17 pupils in the fire incident while 14 are injured,” and further rescue efforts are underway.

The fire spread quickly due to the timber structures of the school, burning the victims beyond recognition.

Authorities have dispatched a team of investigators to uncover the cause of the tragedy. President William Ruto expressed his sorrow over the event, describing it as “horrific” and “devastating.”

He ordered a thorough investigation, stating, “Those responsible will be held to account,” in a post on X.

This tragic incident has left families grieving for their lost children, whose futures were filled with potential.

The loss is not only heartbreaking for the parents but also a blow to the community, which has lost future talents that could have contributed significantly to society.

As the investigation proceeds, condolences pour in, with hopes for healing in the aftermath of this terrible event.
