Killer of Gokada Founder Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Murder and Dismemberment

Tyrese Haspil, the personal assistant convicted of brutally murdering his former boss, Fahim Saleh, and dismembering his body, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.

The sentencing took place on Tuesday, September 10, following Haspil’s conviction in June for murder, grand larceny, and other charges related to the 2020 death of the Gokada founder.

Saleh, a tech entrepreneur who had launched several successful ventures, including the Nigeria-based motorcycle ride-hailing service, was killed after discovering Haspil had stolen $400,000 from his companies.

In spite of Saleh’s decision to give Haspil a second chance by allowing him to repay the stolen money over two years, Haspil chose to murder him out of fear of further discovery.

According to prosecutors, Haspil followed Saleh to his Manhattan apartment, shocked him with a Taser, and then fatally stabbed him.

He returned the next day to dismember the body using an electric saw but was interrupted when Saleh’s cousin arrived at the apartment and found the gruesome scene.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg expressed hope that the sentence would bring some closure to Saleh’s family, stating,

“Today, Tyrese Haspil is facing accountability for brutally murdering and decapitating Fahim Saleh, a kind, generous, and empathetic person. While today’s sentence won’t bring Mr.

Saleh back, I hope it provides his family a sense of closure as they continue to mourn his painful loss.”
