The family of Kogi-based journalist Mohammed Bashir, along with nine others who were kidnapped two weeks ago in Kaduna State, have regained their freedom and are back to their normal lives.
Bashir’s wife, Aminat Shana, and their two daughters, Aisha and Hajara, were abducted in August 2024, sparking widespread concern.
In a statement released on Saturday, August 31, 2024, Bashir confirmed their release but did not disclose whether a ransom was paid or not.
“My dear colleagues, I wish to thank you all for your prayers and concern.
My family and other family members kidnapped three weeks ago in Kaduna have finally been released,” Bashir stated.
He expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from all over, adding, “I pray such will never happen to any of us, our family, or our relations. Thank you once again.”
The release of other abducted family members, including Aisha Saba Khadija, Haruna Adamu, and several others, highlights the ongoing issue of kidnapping in the communities in Nigeria.
This incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures to prevent such occurrences from escalating.
Strengthening law enforcement and providing them with the necessary tools to safeguard lives is crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens in the nation as a whole.
