Journalist Rufai Oseni has expressed concern about the harsh economic realities facing Nigerians, especially those residing in Lagos State.
During a segment on Arise TV, Oseni highlighted how the current state of the Nigerian economy has made it nearly impossible for families to survive on monthly salaries ranging from N400,000 to N600,000.
He suggested that the rising costs of living and basic necessities, fueled by inconsistent petrol prices, have pushed many families to the brink of financial ruin.
“Who is trying to cheat Nigerians?” Oseni asked, pointing to the discrepancies between Dangote’s petrol pricing and NNPC’s pricing template, which he claims led to an increase of over N100 in petrol prices within a day, which is a very shocking one at that.
He stressed that the rising cost of living is unbearable, particularly for families in Lagos, where even a salary of N600,000 barely covers basic expenses.
“If you earn N500,000, you can’t run a family. If you earn N600,000, you can hardly run a family if you live in Lagos,” Oseni stated.
Oseni’s comments come as a warning to the government, urging them to consider the growing frustration among citizens, which he advised.
He suggested that if no adjustments are made to salaries or living conditions, the country’s people may turn to desperate measures to cope with their financial struggles.
He urged officials to reconsider the minimum wage and address the ongoing economic crisis.
