The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Health, has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, who passed away on August 29, 2024, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) following a surgical operation.
The move to investigate comes after concerns were raised by the deceased’s family and colleagues regarding potential impropriety by medical personnel at the hospital.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 31, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced the formation of a medical panel to review the clinical circumstances that led to Ayilara’s death.
The panel, headed by LASUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo, has been given seven days to submit a comprehensive report on the matter.
“We share the grief and understand the anxiety that this news may have caused, and we assure the public that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation,” Abayomi stated.
The late Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, was highly respected for his contributions to the community, and his sudden passing has left a significant void.
The Lagos State Government has extended its condolences to Ayilara’s family, the Police Force, and the people of Akwa Ibom, affirming that his legacy of service will be remembered and felt for years to come.
