Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed a heartwarming conversation with his seven-year-old daughter, August, where he gently steered her away from wanting to become like popstar Taylor Swift wanting her to take another part.
The CEO speaking during an episode of the “Acquired” podcast, Zuckerberg explained how his daughter’s admiration for the superstar led to an important parenting moment for him.
Zuckerberg shared that after attending a Taylor Swift concert, his daughter expressed a desire to follow in the pop star’s footsteps as a result of admiration for the superstar.
“She was like, ‘You know, Dad, I kind of want to be like Taylor Swift when I grow up,’” he recalled.
However, in an effort to encourage originality, Zuckerberg responded with,
“But you can’t. That’s not available to you.”
His response aimed to inspire her to carve out her own path rather than chase someone else’s fame. The father advised the young girl to do better.
Zuckerberg said his daughter took the message to heart, replying,
“Alright, when I grow up, I want people to want to be like August Chan Zuckerberg.” The tech mogul enthusiastically praised her for this shift in perspective, saying, “Hell yeah. Hell yeah,” she stated.
This exchange highlights the importance of nurturing children’s individuality and encouraging them to embrace their own potential to build on themselves.
