Miami Beach officials are reportedly preparing to strip music mogul Diddy of his honorary “Key to the City” following his arrest for alleged sex trafficking and racketeering in New York City last month.
The removal of this honor, initially presented by former Mayor Philip Levine in 2015, is nearing completion, though the looming threat of Hurricane Milton may delay the final decision.
Diddy’s arrest and the ongoing legal battle have put the city under pressure to distance itself from the embattled star.
This isn’t the first time Diddy has faced backlash over his actions.
Earlier this year, after footage emerged showing the Bad Boy Records founder allegedly assaulting Cassie in 2016, New York City Mayor Eric Adams publicly condemned him and revoked his honorary key.
“Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration,” Adams said at the time.
Diddy has consistently denied the charges and remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told TMZ that his client intends to plead not guilty and will not take any plea deals.
As the case continues to unfold, Miami Beach officials are reportedly concerned about the potential negative impact of maintaining the honor given to Diddy, highlighting the city’s desire to uphold its reputation and show that no individual is above the law.
